Album Review - "Human Target"

On July 26, 2019 THY ART IS MURDER will release their  fifth album "Human Target" through Nuclear Blast Records and Human Warfare.  Thy Art once again teamed up with Will Putney to produce, engineer, mix and master their record.  Having worked together on "Hate", "Holy War", and "Dear Desolaton" all the critical aspects of the THY ART IS MURDER sound is powerfully captured on "Human Target".

When I listen to a new THY ART IS MURDER record I look for Andy Marsh's guitar work, heavy chunk crunching through a song and leads that expand a track.  The title track "Human Target" has that signature chunk which will motivate the mosh,  I also look for CJ McMahon's deep gutteral vocals and hellacious screams that for me are pushing him higher and higher up the ladder of today's top deathcore vocalists. "New Gods" is a tune that will melt the skin off your bones and right there to pulverize what's left into dust is CJ with an epic vocal barrage of notes that are barely human.  I can't listen to a TAIM record without looking for the battering drums and for "Human Target" manning the double-bass attack is new member Jesse Beahler.  "Death Squad Anthem" has that blistering footwork you wanna hear from the drums, working to power the song.  "Voyeurs Into Death" shows what it means to have a rhythm guitarist (Sean Delander) and bassist (Kevin Butler)  who can do exactly what is needed to keep a song on track.  Sean's guitar chords are heavy, Kevin's bass is smooth, and holy hell the combination kills on this song.

"Make America Hate Again" is a monster as we all know being the  third single released from "Human Target" and is such a smart interpretation of the bullshit politics has become here in the U.S.  I suggest we all pick up "Human Target" from THY ART IS MURDER and Make America Mosh Again!!!

Concert Review

May 15, 2019

The Fillmore - Philadelphia, PA

Thy Art Is Murder came back to town as direct support for Architects, with While She Sleeps opening the show.

This show was special for the Philly crowd because it was announced the day before that singer CJ McMahon would be leaving the tour after the Philly show to be with his woman for the birth of their first child!

Parenthood aside, CJ ripped it up as the band torched The Fillmore with a killer set featuring hits "Holy War", "Puppet Master", "The Purest Strain of Hate" and their latest single "Human Target" which ended the set.

Lead guitarist Andy Marsh crushed it with his signature riffs and heavy crunchy licks. The band performed while the crowd moshed their asses off!  And for the first time ever I witnessed a group of fans sit in the middle of a massive circle pit and "row boat" in unison.  What does it mean? Why fucking knows.  But it was bad ass, and so was

"Double Homicide Tour"

September 22, 2017

TLA, Philly

special guests - Fallujah, Ghost Bath

As they continue to tour in support of their phenomenal new album "Dear Desolation", Australian brutalizers THY ART IS MURDER have spent the past month on the "Double Homicide" tour with Fallujah and Ghost Bath.  On Friday night September 22nd Philadelphia played host to the show.

Thy Art Is Murder's first appearance in town since the return of vocalist CJ McMahon was  a huge success, playing songs from their albums "Hate", "Holy War" and the first four songs off of "Dear Desolation".

Headlining the TLA, Thy Art Is Murder controlled the big stage and controlled the audience, having the fans crowd-surf to them during "Holy War" and mosh, and circle pit  during EVERY OTHER TUNE!!

The band's solidly powerful and brutal set  kicked off with "Dear Desolation" and then their epic new hit "Slaves Beyond Death" (the song's video gave us our first look at the reunited line up  with CJ).  Sick guitars from Andy Marsh and Sean Delander and CJ's gutteral  vocals are so fuckin' killer on this track.  Definitely one of my votes for song of the year.

"Coffin Dragger", "No Absolution", "Puppet Master" all sounded incredible and CJ added a very cool intro to "The Purest Strain of Hate" (which you can see below) giving a nod to "Rocky".

Unfortunately, the tour ends Sunday and then Thy Art Is Murder is off on a European tour with "After The Burial" and "Oceano" so if you missed the band this time around keep your fingers crossed that the guys come back through North America soon.....very soon!

Set List:

Review - "Dear Desolation"

Thy Art Is Murder

“Dear Desolation”

Release date:  August 18, 2017

Nuclear Blast

Finally, the time is here to tear shit up!  We’ve been teased with two heavy as fuck tunes “Slaves Beyond Death” and “The Son of Misery” but on August 18th through Nuclear Blast the Australian metal militia we know as Thy Art Is Murder give us “Dear Desolation”.

I’m glad the band only released two songs before the album’s release.  They’ve given everyone a taste of where the band’s going with singer CJ McMahon back out front without letting all the brutal bits spill out.  And on “Dear Desolation” the totality of the brutality that is Thy Art Is Murder kicks you square in the grill.

“The Son of Misery”, with its occult meets “Children of the Corn” video, is sick as shit.  I had to clip a pic of CJ from the video.  Look as this madman and tell me the passion, the heavy, the beast isn’t still in this guy.

You’ve heard the proof….”The Son of Misery” is a good start here.

Slaves Beyond Death” is simply vicious.  The guitars are nasty and Lee Stanton’s double bass drum work is going to have mosh pits imploding when the band hits the road next week with  Decapitated, Fallujah, and Ghost Bath.

But fear not you sick bastards, these two monsters are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

The title track “Dear Desolation” is a skull-masher.  Andy Marsh and Sean Delander have recorded some insane guitar work during the life cycle of Thy Art Is Murder but man the solos on “Dear Desolation” here are phenomenal.  Fast, heavy stomping riffs for sure.

Wait until you hear the opening for “Puppet Master”. Classic deathcore with a repetitive single beat of the snare drum over a furious guitar riff that really might incite riots!!  Hopefully not but I definitely wanted to destroy shit….tons of shit…..during this tune.

Oh, and let’s not forget “Death Dealer”.  The haunting keyboards backing CJ’s psychotic vocals give this track a horror movie vibe.  Breakdowns?  Fuck yeah there’s breakdowns.  The heavy step-down stomp of the guitar chord progression is something that should be idolized.

“Dear Desolation” wraps up with the song “The Final Curtain”.  As the lyrics go “the final curtain, so unforgiving” but metaphorically speaking the curtain on the career of Thy Art Is Murder is wide fucking open and “Dear Desolation” could go down as the finest work from the band to date.

Additional Information

This is a long form text area designed for your content that you can fill up with as many words as your heart desires. You can write articles, long mission statements, company policies, executive profiles, company awards/distinctions, office locations, shareholder reports, whitepapers, media mentions and other pieces of content that don’t fit into a shorter, more succinct space.

Articles – Good topics for articles include anything related to your company – recent changes to operations, the latest company softball game – or the industry you’re in. General business trends (think national and even international) are great article fodder, too.

Mission statements – You can tell a lot about a company by its mission statement. Don’t have one? Now might be a good time to create one and post it here. A good mission statement tells you what drives a company to do what it does.

Company policies – Are there company policies that are particularly important to your business? Perhaps your unlimited paternity/maternity leave policy has endeared you to employees across the company. This is a good place to talk about that.

Executive profiles – A company is only as strong as its executive leadership. This is a good place to show off who’s occupying the corner offices. Write a nice bio about each executive that includes what they do, how long they’ve been at it, and what got them to where they are.
