Welcome to our world in 2020. No public gatherings, no sports, no movies, and NO CONCERTS. But humans are resilient, and the metal community is fucking creative!! Leave it to a band like Suicide Silence to not let a little thing like a global pandemic to keep them from performing for their fans.
During the month of July Suicide Silence is putting on a slew of virtual shows, with each show unique to each individual city. We purchased our ticket the day they went on sale for the Philadelphia show. Going in to Sunday's show I knew it would be quite different than the ferocious show I saw at the packed TLA when they toured with The Black Dahlia Murder nor was I expecting it to be as brutal as it was when I saw them across the river in Camden, NJ on the Mayhem Fest.
HOLY SHIT...we had a freakin' blast watching this show! Seeing the band perform together, with all the lights of a live show and with multiple camera angles really made it feel like a concert. It helped that we had the show up on our tv and pumped through the surround sound system. EPIC SET!
Seeing the camera up tight on Mark Heylmun as he nailed the solo in "Lifted" or watching Eddie Hermida busting out the hellacious vocals of "Disengage" the various camera angles provided some cool visuals. Chris Garza and his bright purple hair flailing in circles on "Fuck Everything", watching Alex Lopez punish the drums on "No PIty For a Coward" and watching Dan Kenny be Dan fucking Kenny!
But the guys did so much more then just perform a killer set. "Brutal Thoughts with Eddie Hermida" gave us such deep insights such as "cereal is just cold soup". We found out in a commercial spot that Dan Kenny uses a particular type of laundry detergent that keeps his clothes brutal. Other skits the guys did were mixed in as well as clips of Mitch Lucker and the guys on tour, backstage, on the tour bus, and performing live early on in their career.
Then there was the after show Q&A. The guys took a ton of questions from the live chatroom. Who has the best hair? What Philly venue do you like to play the most? What tour was your favorite? What Suicide Silence song do you like performing the most? What's the best Marvel movie? And so many more.
All tour dates are below. Grab a ticket....it's damn good time!
